DIET
Wow, if you have done some research by now you may be totally frustrated as to what to feed your glider. My opinion is keep it simple. I personally prefer fresh fruit, veggies and lots of protein. I also offer my gliders BML mix or leadbeaters every day.
There are many glider diets to choose from and I have become more open minded over the years. I am looking into several right now and will update you when I have decided which I feel are worthwhile.
Leadbeaters is my staple diet given every night to my gliders. This is the recipe that the Taranga Zoo in Australia uses for their sugar gliders. It can be kept in the freezer in an air tight container and spooned out each night. You can also pour it into an ice cube tray and one cube per glider per night is usually enough. Be sure to seal the tray tightly or put in a large freezer bag.
RECIPE
Apple juice............................................................................. 1/2 cup
Honey..................................................................................... 1/2 cup
Gerber baby chicken or turkey................................................ 1 jar
Boiled egg............................................................................... 2 (take the shell off for gliders under 6 months old)
Gerber baby rice cereal (flakes) ..............................................1/2 cup
Wheat Germ .......................................................................... 1/2 (eliminate completely until the glider is over 6 months old)
Rep-Cal (calcium supplement with no phosphorous)....... 1 1/4 tsp. (pink label found in the reptile dept. of Pet Smart)
Herptivite (vitamin supplement)............................................ 1 tsp. (blue label found in the reptile dept at Pet Smart)
Put everything in a blender and puree until lump free. One recipe makes about 50 glider servings depending on how much your glider eats!
